About

Veterinary doctor, author, and student of life

I am Dr. N. Balasubramanian, and my life has been shaped by two things I hold close to my heart — my service as a veterinary doctor and my love for the game of cricket. I retired as the Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu, after decades of dedicated work across the state. My journey in the department gave me the privilege of serving countless families, farms, and even some of the most well‑known and respected personalities in Tamil Nadu. Every animal I treated and every person I met added meaning to my years in service.

My academic path took me through the world of veterinary science, culminating in my MVSc degree, which strengthened my foundation and deepened my commitment to animal welfare. Over the years, I worked across various districts, handled challenging cases, and contributed to programs that improved livestock health and rural livelihoods. Looking back, I feel grateful for the trust people placed in me and the opportunities I had to make a difference.

Outside my profession, cricket has always been my lifelong companion. I started playing as a young boy in school, and the passion never left me. Even during my years in government service, I continued to play — sometimes early in the morning before work, sometimes during departmental tournaments, and often just for the joy of the game. Cricket taught me discipline, teamwork, patience, and resilience — qualities that helped me both on the field and in my veterinary career.

In my later years, I found myself drawn to writing. I wanted to document the experiences, lessons, and memories gathered over a lifetime. My books reflect not only my professional journey but also the values I grew up with. One of my most cherished additions is a collection of my mother’s traditional recipes — a small gift to my readers and my family, preserving the warmth of her kitchen and the love she poured into every dish.

This website brings together my work, my writings, and the memories that shaped me. If you find something here that inspires you, teaches you, or simply brings a smile, I consider that a blessing.

Why I write

Writing became a natural extension of my life in service. After decades as a veterinary doctor, I found that the stories, lessons, and moments I carried with me were too meaningful to leave unspoken. Each experience — whether it was treating an animal, meeting a family, or traveling across Tamil Nadu — taught me something about compassion, patience, and the simple truths of life.

Putting these memories into words allowed me to reflect on the journey that shaped me. Some stories made me smile, some humbled me, and others reminded me of the responsibility that comes with caring for another living being. Over time, writing became a way to preserve these moments, not just for myself, but for my daughter, grandchildren, and anyone who finds value in them.

I write because memories fade, but words remain. Through my books, I hope to share the wisdom I gathered, the people who inspired me, and the traditions that guided me. If even one reader finds comfort, learning, or a familiar feeling in these pages, I consider that a blessing.

Mother's Influence

My mother has been one of the greatest influences in my life. Her strength, simplicity, and unwavering devotion shaped the values I carry even today. She taught me patience, compassion, and the importance of doing every task — big or small — with sincerity. Much of who I am, both as a person and as a veterinary doctor, comes from the lessons I learned watching her live with dignity and grace.

Her cooking was another expression of her love. The recipes she wrote in her own handwriting were not just instructions for food, but memories of our home, our traditions, and the warmth she brought into every moment. Preserving her recipes became my way of keeping her presence alive, and sharing them now feels like passing on a part of her heart to the next generation.

Even in my writing, I feel her influence. She believed in simplicity, honesty, and kindness — values that guide every page I write. If my words carry any warmth or sincerity, it is because of her. My mother’s life continues to inspire me, and honoring her legacy is one of the greatest joys of my journey.
